Million Step Challenge Wraps Up

WakeMed was honored to be part of the Raleigh Million Step Challenge this past Spring.

Hosted by Alliance Medical Ministry, Advance Community Care and WakeMed – local, pre-diabetic women were challenged to walk 1,000,000 steps over the course of 112 days.

How Steps Were Tracked

All patients were placed on teams and received FitBits, and steps were centrally tracked for the competition.

Adding to the fun of the competition, local organizations, politicians and governments were invited as weekly “guest challengers.” Some of these esteemed guests included:

  • The YMCA
  • The Town of Cary
  • The Town of Zebulon
  • The Town of Wendel
  • The Town of Knightdale
  • Wake County Government
  • Senator Thom Tillis
  • WakeMed Foundation Staff
  • WakeMed administrative staff ( led by WakeMed CEO & president, Donald Gintzig)*

*Donald had the most steps of our 20 administrator leaders who participated!

While Team Tillis ended up having the most steps in one week, the Wake County Commissioners definitely won the award for the Most Inspiring/Most Stylish Use of Shorts + Knee High Socks in a Video Award……Watch the videos below, and you be the judge!
