WakeMed’s Head to Toe Health & Wellness Education Series Kicks Off Tomorrow

Our first Head to Toe event of 2013 will be held in downtown Raleigh at the Alexander Family YMCA on tomorrow – Tuesday, October 22, from 10 am to 1 pm.

Head to Toe is WakeMed’s annual health and education series, bringing to Wake County residents free health screenings, seminars and other beneficial wellness information.

In addition to a seminar by Dr. Brian Thomas Klausner of Wake Specialty Physicians – City Center Medical Group on the “Winter Blues,” including cold, flu and sinusitis, the event will offer a variety of screenings meant to help folks get a better handle on their health and well-being.  One such screening is the varicose vein screening, performed by specialists from WakeMed Faculty Physicians (WFP) – Vascular Surgery.

Red or blue in color, varicose veins are swollen, twisted or enlarged veins that typically don’t cause problems for people but can lead to more serious health conditions such as pain, swelling, skin color changes, dry or irritated skin, ulcers, bleeding and/or blood clots.  If you have varicose veins and wish to get them checked out, this event provides the perfect opportunity.

Specialists from WFP-Vascular Surgery, including Dr. Kirk Charles, will examine your varicose veins to rule out any problems, such as blood clots; offer advice for discomfort and swelling; and help identify if you need medical treatment for your varicose veins.  No registration is required for the varicose vein screening or any of the Head to Toe health screenings; however, the screenings are performed on a first come, first served basis – while supplies last.
