Learn CPR in Class or at Home

Registration just opened for WakeMed-sponsored CPR trainings* being offered during the month of March.

Why learn CPR?  CPR is an important skill to master for the health of your loved ones because most heart attacks occur at home. Studies have proven survival rates markedly increase for heart attack victims who have prompt CPR.

This is the third year running WakeMed has partnered with Wake County EMS to offer this CPR training.  Space is limited, so register today.

If you are unable to attend an event, but would still like to learn CPR and become more familiar with what to do if you or a loved one is having a heart attack, read the blog entitled What to do During a Heart Attack and Why submitted by Dr. Brent Myers, medical director of Wake County EMS and emergency room physician, and purchase a CPR Anytime Kit for Family and Friends.

Dr. Myers’ blog is full of great information, clearing up many misperceptions about what a heart attack really feels like and why if you are having a heart attack you should call 9-1-1.  The information may surprise you.

The good news is that if you have a heart attack in Wake County, benefit from bystander CPR, and are transported via EMS to a hospital equipped to care for you, your chances of surviving the heart attack neurologically intact are very, very good.  In fact, Wake County has some of the best survival rates in the entire country.

*Bystander CPR training does not meet requirements for certification.
