It’s been a great year for WakeMed Cary Hospital — as evidenced by an impressive round of awards and accolades that span across a wide range of specialty areas.
Heart Attack Care
The American College of Cardiology (ACC) recognized Cary Hospital as being among the nation’s top performing hospitals for the treatment of heart attack patients. Cary Hospital is among the 262 hospitals nationwide to receive the ACC’s NCDR Chest Pain – MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2023. This award recognizes our commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients.
Overall Patient Safety
This spring, WakeMed Cary Hospital received an ‘A’ grade on the latest Hospital Safety Grades released by The Leapfrog Group. The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization that works to initiate improvements in the safety, quality and affordability of health care. This program focuses exclusively on safety (accidents, injuries and errors). The accomplishment places Cary Hospital in elite company: only 29% of hospitals nationwide received A’s in this round of scores.
Heart Failure, Stroke & Maternity Care
In the U.S. News & World Report’s 2023-2024 list of Best Hospitals: Procedures & Conditions, WakeMed Cary Hospital was rated as ‘High Performing’ for the following procedures and conditions:
- Heart failure
- Stroke
- Maternity Care (Uncomplicated Pregnancy)
The annual Procedures & Conditions ratings are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or elective procedures. They’re based on objective measures of quality such as survival rates, patient experience, and how successfully each hospital helps patients get back home.
WakeMed Cary Hospital also received top recognition as being among the best maternity care hospitals in the U.S., according to a national ranking by Newsweek based on data from Statista. This program spotlights facilities that have excelled in providing care to mothers, newborns and their families and have fully met Statista’s standards for maternity care on evidence-based, nationally standardized metrics.
Socially Responsible Care
WakeMed Cary Hospital made the Lown Institute’s 2023-24 list of the nation’s most socially responsible hospitals and health systems — achieving “A” grades across metrics of health equity, value of care, and patient outcomes. WakeMed Cary Hospital came in first in the state of North Carolina for Clinical Outcomes, which reflects how well a hospital keeps patients alive and prevents return trips.
“WakeMed Cary Hospital is always striving to enhance the care we deliver to our patients and families — and we’re committed to improving quality, safety and service for the many members of our community who rely on us for care,” says Tom Hughes, MHA, Senior Vice President & Administrator, WakeMed Cary Hospital. “We are incredibly proud of these high honors and grateful for the trust our patients put in our dedicated providers and care teams.”
