Each year, the WakeMed Foundation’s Community Campaign offers an opportunity to support hospital programs and services. We sat down with Amanda Powell, a local talent professional and Community Campaign Team Leader, to talk about why serving WakeMed matters to her.
Born and raised in Raleigh, Amanda Powell considers herself a wholehearted, can’t-help-it-enthusiastic ambassador for the city. WakeMed is a crucial part of the places she loves. “WakeMed is doing so much right now to benefit our community, and a lot of it is behind-the-scenes,” Amanda says. “They’re our backbone of healthcare.”
Community First
As an actively involved Raleighite, Amanda appreciates WakeMed’s community-focused mindset. “The WakeMed team takes it upon themselves to improve the wellness of our community,” she says. The WakeMed Way goes beyond what happens within the walls of the hospital and extends to outreach programming, too. “One of my favorites is an obesity-prevention program for children, teaching them how to cook their own meals, among other skills,” Amanda says.
Programming like the youth outreach is what keeps Amanda inspired to continue supporting WakeMed. “It makes sense for the community to support our community hospital. WakeMed is our community hospital.”
Easy Yes
Amanda was born at WakeMed, so for her, the hospital feels like home. Sharing its mission through the Community Campaign is “extremely rewarding,” she says. “I could talk about WakeMed all day. It is an important, worthy cause. For me, being involved is an easy yes. I know it will be for so many others, too.”
About Amanda Powell
Amanda Powell is the Director of Client Development and Engagement at Greene Resources, a local recruiting firm. As a Raleigh native born at WakeMed, Amanda likes to say she’s been involved with WakeMed her whole life — and she has been involved in an official volunteer capacity for more than two years. She is a WakeMed Foundation Community Campaign Team Leader, where she works closely with fellow volunteers (including her father, who serves on her team) and Foundation staff to learn about WakeMed’s work and educate the community at large.
