What is it about Chantal Howard that makes her such a special member of the WakeMed family? Besides being an incredible leader, Chantal is a tremendous advocate for men, women, children and families who have been impacted by domestic violence in the community.
Chantal comments on her work, saying:

Leading the Way at WakeMed
Chantal started her career at WakeMed in 2005 as a nurse manager. Later, in 2014, she was named director of Emergency Services for WakeMed Raleigh Campus – leading one of the largest and busiest emergency department systems in North Carolina.
Recently, Chantal was named vice president of Nursing for Raleigh Campus, where her responsibilities include: planning, facilitating and evaluating nursing and patient care services, and working with leadership and the Medical Staff to advance clinical care. Chantal went on to say:

Advocating for Victims of Domestic Violence
As a certified emergency nurse (CEN), sexual assault forensic examiner and member of Wake County’s Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team (DVRFT), Chantal understands the devastating consequences of domestic violence.
Victims of domestic violence are frequent users of the emergency department, and even when they are identified through mandatory domestic violence screens, few receive any real intervention to prevent further harm.
Because of Chantal’s efforts and research, nurses in the WakeMed Raleigh Campus Emergency Department, in partnership with our community domestic violence services provider and police agencies, now use the research-based Lethality Assessment Program (LAP) to better identify victims of domestic violence and help connect them with InterAct – a non-profit agency that provides safety and support to victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

About Chantal Howard, MSN, RN, CEN
Chantal Howard has more than 20 years of nursing and leadership experience at hospitals in New York, Texas and North Carolina. She earned a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Phoenix and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Long Island University in Brooklyn, NY.
In her new role as vice president of Nursing for Raleigh Campus, Howard will work to assure the overall quality of nursing practices for Raleigh Campus, providing direction for nursing management and staff while supporting clinical performance and service excellence programs.
