Severe Weather Preparedness: Tornadoes

Tomorrow is the last day of Severe Weather Preparedness Week, but that doesn’t mean that we should put severe weather planning and education on the back burner because the really scary thing about severe weather is that it is unpredictable.

The only thing we can control about severe weather is our level of education and preparedness.

What to do During a Tornado

Here’s what do to during a tornado warning, depending on where you are:

NC Severe Weather Preparedness Week

Severe Weather in the Triangle

In our area, we need to be prepared for:

  • Flooding
  • Hurricanes
  • Tornadoes
  • Thunderstorms & lightning
  • Snow & ice
  • And even earthquakes

Tornado Watch vs. Tornado Warning

Right now, our risk is greatest for severe thunderstorms and tornadoes. Knowing the difference between a watch and a warning and understanding what to do when a watch or a warning is issued the most important thing you can do to prepare.

  • Tornado Watch – Tornados are possible in your area so watch out and get to a safe, solid structure.
  • Tornado Warning –A tornado is in your area. Take cover immediately.
