WakeMed Employee & Her Family Excited for 2015 WakeMed Scrub Run

Fun at the Scrub Run!

Next Saturday, June 20, WakeMed will host the 2015 WakeMed Scrub Run 5K/10K & Fun Fest in downtown Raleigh. We’re expecting sunny weather, energetic runners and walkers, and a great day to raise money for WakeMed Children’s. The entire community is invited to join together in Raleigh’s City Plaza to enjoy this festive, family-friendly event which will also include games and activities for all, face painting, arts & crafts for the kids, live music and food. Registration for the races is still open – click to sign up now.

One WakeMed employee who has already signed up for the race is Kristi Blankenship, RN, of the Raleigh Campus Adult Emergency Department. Hear what she has to say about the event and why she has chosen to participate for the second time.

How will you be participating in the 2015 WakeMed Scrub Run?

I am running the 5K with my husband, and our five-year-old son will be running in the Kids’ Dash.

Why are you excited to participate in this year’s event?

I have participated before. In 2012, I ran my first 5K at the WakeMed Scrub Run. It’s a really fun event, and the entire family can get involved!

For WakeMed employees, what is special about this event?

For WakeMed employees, the Scrub Run presents a chance to spend time and have fun with your co-workers outside of work while participating in a great cause.  All proceeds go to the WakeMed Children’s Hospital.  So, it’s for the kids!  It’s also an opportunity to help represent WakeMed out in the community.

Why would you recommend this event to your friends, neighbors and colleagues?

I like that it is a fun, family event…it’s something you can do in the morning with your kids, before it gets too hot.  It’s not an all-day commitment but still creates a great opportunity to come together in your spare time for WakeMed Children’s.
