An Experience Made Possible by Experience: Labor & Delivery at WakeMed Raleigh Campus

Each year, more than 7,500 babies are born at WakeMed – more than any other hospital system in Wake County. And just as babies grow and change over time, so must our facilities. Our labor and delivery unit on the Raleigh Campus is expanding, offering new moms an exceptional patient and family experience.

All New Labor and Delivery Suites at WakeMed Raleigh Campus
Phase one of our labor and delivery renovation is now open, offering all new moms and their families a beautiful, spacious environment to welcome newborns. With 15 new labor and delivery suites, we ensure privacy and comfort in a family-centered environment. Our expert team of obstetricians, nurses, neonatologists, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, midwives and other professionals provides the highest quality of maternal care and women’s services.

We’re Growing!
The second phase of the labor and delivery redesign is well underway and is slated to debut later this fall. Once complete, the labor and delivery unit will feature:

  • A new, eight-bed Antenatal Unit, specifically designed for the complex needs of a woman’s high-risk pregnancy and those requiring extended hospital care during their pregnancy
  • Three new surgical suites for C-section and special needs deliveries
  • Expanded support and family areas

“This is such a special time in a woman’s life, and this renovation creates a wonderful environment for us to deliver outstanding care to our patients,” says Seth Brody, MD, executive medical director, WakeMed Physician Practices, Women’s Services. “The new Antenatal Unit will provide expectant mothers experiencing a high-risk pregnancy or delivery with the safest environment and the most specialized care available in Wake County. This includes support from our 48-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit that offers the highest level of care available to critically ill babies.”

Offering Three Childbirth Locations
WakeMed Raleigh Campus is one of three childbirth locations offered by WakeMed. Together, with the Women’s Hospital at WakeMed North and WakeMed Cary Hospital, we offer a seamless continuum of maternity and neonatal care, ensuring the highest level of quality, safety and high-risk specialty care – all right here in Wake County. It is our comprehensive capabilities and the compassion with which care is delivered that make us not just the best place to have a baby, but the only place to have a baby.
