WakeMed Key Community Care 1 of 123 Approved Accountable Care Organizations

Today, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that WakeMed Key Community Care (WKCC) has been approved as one of 123 new Medicare Shared Savings Program Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs).

WakeMed Key Community Care – a collaboration between WakeMed Health & Hospitals, WakeMed Physician Practices and Key Physicians – brings together a significant network of more than 220 independent primary care physicians with a leading independent health system with another 250 primary care and specialty providers.

“WKCC will facilitate patient access to a coordinated health care team focused on delivering efficient, quality care at a reasonable cost,” commented John Rubino, MD, president of Key Physicians. “Streamlining communication with the patient and between health care providers will reduce duplication of services, limit unnecessary tests, ease transitions from hospital to home and help patients maintain good health.”

“This Accountable Care Organization will uniquely benefit our community by bringing together valuable health resources in a more integrated way that will ultimately lead to better health. This partnership offers new opportunities for providers to work closer together to help patients manage and improve their health,” commented Donald Gintzig, WakeMed president & CEO. “Patients will benefit from population health strategies aimed at providing a more seamless coordination of inpatient and outpatient services, clinical resources, and physicians. This is a profound opportunity to help us achieve a fundamental aspect of our mission…improving the health of our community.”

We are extremely pleased to partner with the 220 independent physicians that make up Key Physicians network. This partnership is great news for the health of our community. Learn more by reading the press release, and stayed tuned for more information.
