A Tribute to Marti Palmer

Today, we say goodbye to a friendly face who welcomed countless patients, visitors and employees to WakeMed Raleigh Campus over the past 16 years.

Margaret (Marti) Palmer was first hired to work in the Raleigh Campus Gift Shop but later transitioned to the hospital’s main patient information desk, where she served until retiring in 2012. In this role, she was the first person a visitor would see upon walking through the hospital’s front door.

Susan Hester, WakeMed’s director of Community Services who originally hired Marti, said that her can-do spirit was infectious.  “She was truly about quality, service and giving people a good experience.  I only received compliments about Marti – she was always more than willing to find the right answer or provide the correct resource.  Her priority remained giving people the best service, the first time, whether they were on the phone or standing at the information desk.”

Marti was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dear friend to many.  At WakeMed, Marti leaves a legacy of gold-standard service and will be remembered by many for the way in which she helped put them at ease as soon as they walked through the front door.

Her smile, friendly attitude and commitment to helping others enriched our organization, and we will forever be grateful for her contributions to the patient and visitor experience.
