Apex Healthplex Nearing 5 Year Anniversary

Nearly five years ago, WakeMed Apex Healthplex emergency department opened its doors to the residents of Apex and western Wake County, bringing additional convenient, accessible health care resources to these communities.  February 4, 2013 will mark the facility’s official five-year anniversary!

During its first fiscal year in 2009 the emergency department treated 9,342 patients.  In 2012 alone, 19,976 patients received care at Apex Healthplex emergency department, close to a 50 percent increase in patient volume in just five years.  To date, the facility has:

  • WakeMed Apex Healthplex, the state’s second free-standing ED, opened in 2008.

    Treated 90,181 emergency department patients – On average, 57 ED patients are seen each day

  • Performed 79,393 total imaging studies – 55,599 for outpatients, 23,794 for emergency department patients
  • Performed 40,046 emergency department and outpatient lab tests from October 2011 through December 2012

WakeMed Apex Healthplex emergency department consistently earns high marks for patient satisfaction.  In fact, Professional Research Consultants (PRC) data, which tracks patient’s perceptions of the care they received in WakeMed’s in- and outpatient settings across the system, ranks the WakeMed Apex Healthplex emergency department as providing 5-star care.  This 5-star award is the highest annual award bestowed from PRC. Winners are determined by comparing results to other PRC healthcare clients across the country. 

Apex is also home to Wake Specialty Physicians – Apex Medical Group.  Experienced family medicine physicians Orlando Conty, MD, and Ragini Madan, MD, offer a comprehensive range of family medicine services, specializing in adults and adolescents ages six and up. The practice is certified as a Patient-Centered Medical Home by the National Committee for Quality Assurance.
