Dress for Success
Dress For Success is an organization that promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. Women are referred to Dress for Success by 65 not-for-profit organizations around the Triangle area.
WakeMed’s Human Resources employees have been volunteering for Dress for Success for more than a year. WakeMed recruiters spend an entire day mentoring women, many of whom have been battered or abused. The recruiters share information about interviewing skills, which can be invaluable for someone who has never interviewed for a professional position.
Top advice given by WakeMed recruiters: make sure your outward appearance conveys an interest in the position. Dressing appropriately and taking pride in your appearance says to hiring managers that you care about the job and about yourself.
WakeMed is also participating in Enable America this year. Enable America is a program that advocates and promotes career development for people with disabilities. WakeMed Human Resources will provide a recruiter at a job readiness workshop and host a Disability Mentoring Day in October. Stay tuned for additional details.
