BackTalk, a support group for kids and teens with scoliosis and other spinal conditions, will welcome Miss North Carolina 2009 Katherine Southard to their meeting on Saturday.
In 2005, Southard competed for Miss North Carolina for the first time while in a back brace. The second time she competed was 2008, just six months after surgery to correct her scoliosis. She was runner-up in 2008 and took the crown in 2009.
On Saturday, Southard will share information about her experience with scoliosis and reinforce how it is so important to follow your dreams regardless of obstacles.
This event is open to anyone with a personal connection to scoliosis. So if you, a family member, or a friend are at risk, are being treated for scoliosis, or are interested in being part of this support group please come out!
