Every day in the hospital, our chaplains, who are dedicated members of our Spiritual Care team, spread messages of grace and thanksgiving to patients and their families who are facing tremendous adversity.
One of our chaplain supervisors shared the following insightful words to help us all live a more grateful life and ultimately improve our physical and mental health. During this holiday season, find reasons to celebrate life and be thankful for all that you have by:
- Recognizing it is good that you exist. You are a person of worth.
- Being aware gratitude is the awareness that all of life is gift.
- Remembering life is not something to be earned or possessed but received, participated in, and held freely in gratefulness.
- Being gracious with others and with yourself. Gratitude emerges out of who we are.
- Realizing we are not self-sufficient. We are interdependent on one another.
- Focusing on what we have rather than on what we don’t have.
- Valuing relationships and striving to nurture them.
According to Harry Emerson Fosdick, “It matters not what life does to a person; what matters is what a person does with life.”
Thank you to chaplain supervisor Mary Ann Poythress for sharing these inspirational thoughts.
