At any accident there can be as many as four news helicopters covering the scene where WakeMed’s Air Mobile is responding to a call. WRAL’s Sky 5 is one of the most frequent helicopters covering accidents where WakeMed Air Mobile has been called to respond.
The two crews have developed a friendly relationship and frequently share information about obstacles, hazards, flight paths and the accident with each other while en route. This friendly exchange of information helps crews avoid mid-air collisions and helps the WakeMed Air Mobile crew better understand the situation on the ground even before they arrive.
This afternoon, WRAL’s Sky 5 landed on the helipad on WakeMed Raleigh Campus so the two crews could meet in person.
